Every six months or so I try to think of a few key pieces to update my wardrobe for the coming season and every year I am too late. I am often in denial that summer is over until about November and then must actually find some winter clothes that will be versatile yet fit in with the trends! This year I have managed to get my act together and go winter shopping before winter, hooray, and pick up what I think are staples that could work with any outfit.
Here are my top 6 picks:
Checked Shirt: An item that is sure never to go out of fashion, a checked shirt can work its way into every winter wardrobe for years to come. It also goes well with this season's punky/gothic trend. My favourite is a red checked shirt I bought on ebay a few months ago!
Oversized Coat: I get very cold very easily so a think coat is essential for me. Oversized coats were all over fashion week last February and they work well for most body shapes. I have bought one from Topshop to wear to school but am also looking into this from H&M - it looks much nicer in real life! Primark and Zara also do some fab thick coats.
White Jumper: The white jumper I bought from Topshop last week is actually on its way to be returned as it doesn't fit but I do think they are great for AW! Monochrome is a trend set to continue for the foreseeable future and wearing winter whites is also one of my favourite looks, very timeless.
Chunky Necklace: I am one of those people that loves to accessorise and necklaces are my favourite way to do this. This chunky chain from ASOS is my current favourite, it can really make any outfit look interesting.
Leather Boots: Black boots have always been an essential for me as they go with everything. These year I have opted for these cheap and cheerful pair from Boohoo which look surprisingly good although I am having to get them reheeled after just 3 months!
Beanie Hat: I know beanies are something people either love or hate but personally something that can hide my bad hair day and keep my head toasty is fab. The ones from ASOS are my favourite and if you look in the outlet section you can find them for bargain prices.
